Founded in 2008 by James Bell, Richmond Bell Architects has grown rapidly and now employs nine members of staff.
Our team comes from a variety of backgrounds and has a diverse range of experience and interests, although we are unified by our passion, creativity and love of architecture.
Director
James studied Architecture at Edinburgh University and the Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands. He worked at several award-winning architectural practices prior to founding Richmond Bell in 2008.
He has extensive experience in all aspects of the residential sector, and has recently built his own off-grid house in Dorset.
Architectural Assistant
Rachael completed her architecture degree at the University of the West of England in 2020. Prior to joining RBA, she gained experience working for an Interior Design studio in Bahrain and is now involved in developing key internal spaces on projects at RBA.
Rachael enjoys spending her spare time baking, watching the F1 Grand Prix and exploring new places.
Associate Director
Associate Director Matthew studied architecture at the University of the West of England and the Leeds School of Architecture, joining the practice in 2013. Matthew has a particular interest in new technologies, biodiversity and nature.
In his free time, when not walking his dog, Teddy, he also volunteers at the Dogs Trust and attempts to grow food in his allotment.
Architectural Assistant
Darienne graduated from the University of Kent in 2019. She is currently studying her Part 2 Architecture Masters at Portsmouth University as a graduate apprentice, gaining practical experience alongside her studies.
She enjoys painting and, prior to starting her architecture degree, also completed a Foundation course in Art and Design at Arts University Bournemouth.
Architectural Technologist
Andy is a CIAT-registered Architectural Technologist who joined RBA in March 2021. He completed his studies at Southampton Solent in 2011 via the apprenticeship scheme. Andy has experience in a wide range of projects from historical to residential.
In his free time, Andy can be found whizzing around Salisbury on his electric skateboard between the gym and his allotment.
Associate
Simon studied architecture at the University of the West of England, completing his Part II at Arts University Bournemouth in 2015 and qualifying as an Architect from Portsmouth University in 2018.
Simon is inspired by the work of John Pawson, in particular his simple use of materials and natural light.
Any free time Simon has is spent with his young family.
Architectural Assistant
Hannah graduated from the University of Toulouse in France in 2023. Having a background in art and welding, she has combined the best of both worlds in architecture.
Well-travelled, Hannah brings a unique perspective to the practice. Her approach involves meticulous integration with the environment, embracing sustainability in design.
Office and Marketing Manager
After leaving Durham University, Robin worked as an illustrated book editor, then as Marketing Manager for a firm of lawyers. Before joining RBA in 2018, Robin lived on the beautiful island of Jersey, volunteering at Jersey Zoo.
Robin handles office management, finance and HR for RBA, and is responsible for the company website, social media and all things marketing-related.
Architectural Assistant
Rebecca achieved a First in her undergraduate degree from the University of the West of England in 2020. She now combines her role at RBA with studying for her Masters at London Southbank University.
She has a strong interest in biophilic, organic and sustainable architectural design. In her spare time, Rebecca enjoys the outdoors, photography and being creative.
We are always interested in hearing from talented and motivated students, architects and architectural technologists who can work under their own initiative and as part of a team. We pride ourselves in providing a happy working environment and nurturing the professional development of our team. We predominantly use Revit, AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite, SketchUp and 3D Rendering software so experience in these is a must.
