The villa has been designed with a narrow footprint to enable easy cross ventilation and keep the sea breezes flowing through the house - important in a tropical climate.
By using local materials, the house blends in with the island vernacular.
The new house is nestled into the hillside above English Harbour, and provides panoramic views over the harbour below.
Water collection is an important consideration for Caribbean living. Rainwater will be collected from all roofs and hard surfaces and stored in large cisterns located under the building. The water will be used for grey water, the pool and irrigation to the gardens.
The house is designed around an L-shaped plan, with the main living areas in one part of the building and a bedroom wing. Overhanging roofs wrap around the courtyard to provide plenty of shaded areas to the pool.
Richmond Bell worked collaboratively with their partners on the island, and have recently obtained Planning Approval from both the Development Control Authority of Antigua and Barbuda (DCA) and the National Parks Authority (NP).
